World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51M viewers in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the last finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American average was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen various tongues.
